Reinforced concrete

22/07/2013

Since the early twentieth century, reinforced concrete is the material used for building construction. Concrete is poured into the so-called formwork molds. It is  especially used for architectural and engineering applications, such as buildings, bridges, dams, ports, canals, tunnels, floors, beams ... even for buildings whose main structure is in steel, and imperative for the building foundations too.

Concrete curing is the result of a satisfactory temperature and moisture content during a period of time that begins immediately after the placing and finishing process, so that the concrete can display the required properties.

Burlap coating retains the moisture, jute fibre has a high moisture holding capacity,  the concrete repair composition can therefore retain water therein during curing, that is the reason why it is widely used for curing concrete. Jute fabric is appreciate for its technical characteristics and its resistance to putrefaction and fire.

Burlap must be wet just after the final operation stage, this process allows an appropriate wet concrete cure coating.

To prevent surface erosion, curing has to start when the concrete has achieved the best strength and hardness. Wetting burlap is the more effective method for a wet concrete and allow to acquire a homogeneous surface hydration.

The use of burlap for curing has an influence on the concrete hardness and durability. Jute fibres allow a better result in the curing and prevent concrete from cracking.

By using natural materials such as jute fabrics in the areas of building and public works, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable development.
